STEPS Charity - Sponsor Spotlight: The Fleet Office

3rd March 2021

Give us a little description of who you are and what you do

Our names are Jim and Angela and together we founded The Fleet Office five years ago. We work here in the Sunshine Coast and supply tracking products for vehicles and equipment both nationally and internationally. We aim to provide peace of mind to people, knowing that their equipment, vehicles, and people are safe.

What drew you to becoming involved with STEPS?

One of our sons was diagnosed with severe autism during the time we were building the company and the experience gave us a deep understanding of the challenges and demands on families.

When we found STEPS and saw all that they could do to alleviate some of those challenges, we were excited to lend our support. Recently, we donated some of our GPS tracking devices to STEPS so that they could know that their staff and vehicles were safe and secure.

What has been your fondest memory while working with us?

The last STEPS Grand Winter Ball was a proud highlight. It was such an incredible evening; Mason, our son, was featured in the event including a video of our journey. It was amazing to see everything that STEPS had achieved for so many families and it was an honour to be a part of that.

What do you love most about your job?

There are so many great parts of our job. We love working with a great team of individuals who are passionate about making someone else's job easier using technology. Jim and I work so well as a team and we are grateful that we can both be involved in our business we started together and watch it grow as well as juggle it with our little family.

We also love that we can work alongside charities in so much of what we do. It always helps for passion and work to collide. We work with multi-billion dollar projects and often use incredibly high level technologies; we're very proud that we are able to use this experience to make exceptional outcomes for charities. We are able to provide efficient and effective technology while ensuring that charities are needlessly wasting their funds. We love that we are in a position to be able to make this commitment to so many great causes.

What do you wish more people understood about autism and disability?

That it is okay to ask questions and not shy away. It's important to encourage others to educate themselves and to teach children about disability and how to be inclusive. Also, that just because someone is non-verbal that doesn't mean they can't understand. Autism presents itself in so many different ways; it would be nearly impossible to find two individuals with autism that are the same.
